Tips for your Bathroom Renovation

Ever thought about getting your bathroom renovated? Like most of us, there comes a time when some changes need to be made to the house. Whether to give it a fresh update or just because you want to is up to you. The bathroom remodel is probably the part of the house that allows you to indulge and splurge on some small items of luxury that dosen’t cost the earth! So where do you start?

  1. The interior designer or remodeler: choose wisely! Get inspired.

The best way to start is of course to get a good interior designer who can work with you and put all your ideas on paper or in 4D. There are heaps of designers out there but how to choose? My advice: go with someone a company who you can connect to and who is easy to communicate with. It’s that simple…You will have to have a shop around for the one who understands you and your vision.

If you have some designs ideas, put it out there and let them know. It is your bathroom afterall. But if you don’t, then give them some pointers and let them show you what they got. A remodeler will usually have their own teams for a start to finish job, for a no hassle and stress free experience.

  1. The Vanity choice

Wall hung or free standing, off the shelf or custom made, the choice is yours.  The bathroom vanity is probably the most used piece of furniture in the space. Why? Well, you can store your toiletries and millions other items out of sight. You can place a pot plant on the top for that bit of greenery!

Your vanity will be both functional and act as a centrepiece. Add a few other items to it like a nice basin or a black, gold or bronze tap and there you have it. The piece de resistance is set! You will be using it daily so think about a long lasting top like stone or thermolaminated benchtops that will give your vanity that splash of luxury but keep looking good for years to come.

How much can it cost? Depending on sizes and materials, it can be all the way from $400 to $5000 or more especially if custom made and if you want that extra bit of luxury to the bathroom. If you have a budget in mind, stick to it as every little bit counts and the figures can go wild pretty quickly.

  1. “Mirror, mirror on the wall…”

I think the use of mirrors can never exaggerated. Whether it is for shaving that stubble or beard trimming, for the budding make-up artist or just to brush your teeth. They come in different shapes and sizes sometimes making mirrors a most challenging task. But no denying that a mirror for your bathroom is a must have item and indispensable.

Bathroom Renovation Tips

  1. Taps, taps, taps…

The taps you choose can make a bold statement for your bathroom. Why not a black matte tap or bolder in copper, gold or bronze? Looking for a different vibe or wanting to give some subtle colour to your bathroom, then try a non-standard tap colour!

The perfect finish for the beautiful wall tiles and basin you chose. Just that bit of colour pop that gives the bathroom a different feel. It can be vanity mounted or wall mounted, your designer can help you with this and advise. If you are looking for a more conservative look though, then the brushed nickel chrome taps can be the one for you.

  1. Tubs or no tubs?

This will depend on the size of the bathroom. Personally, I am not a fan of tubs as they take a lot a space and they always gather dust and need cleaning! Don’t get me wrong, they look beautiful but only in bigger bathrooms. They can make a small bathroom look smaller and I usually like my space.

Your designer or remodeler will be able to advise you on the best course of action for your bathroom space. They come in various shapes and sizes and there is bound to be one out there that will suit your fantasies and budget.

  1. Lights on!

Led lights, oysters, heater light with integrated fans, the choice is endless. Beacon Lighting has a wide range of lights that will suit any budget and tastes. If you are the more savvy consumer and prefer energy efficient options like me, then led lights are probably your best choice. Advice: check your budget and go from there. If you can allow a little extra money to get the better lighting system then go for it!

  1. Last but not least – Keep to your budget.

We can’t stress enough on this point. This is your guideline for any renovations as costs can quickly escalate and the budget goes down the drain. You can get a small bathroom renovation for as low as $6k to $7 or go full on luxury for $20k and upwards. Rule of thumb: stick to the plan, sheck on the renovators/contractors and make sure you get what you were wanted. Like I said before, it is your bathroom…
